More about Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
A vast CRPG built on the UMM ecosystem
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (2021) is Owlcat Games's second Pathfinder CRPG and one of the largest single-player RPGs released in the past decade, six acts, dozens of mythic paths, hundreds of hours of content. Like its predecessor Kingmaker, WotR is built on Unity with a Mono runtime, and the modding community converged early on Unity Mod Manager (UMM) as the standard.
The modding scene mirrors Pillars of Eternity's, same UMM, same in-game configuration pattern (Ctrl+F10), same .dll-plus-manifest mod format. If you've modded Pillars or Kingmaker, WotR is a one-evening learning curve.
The toolchain
- Unity Mod Manager (UMM): the standard loader. Same install pattern as Pillars and Kingmaker.
- TabletopTweaks-Core: a popular framework mod that other mods declare as a dependency. Provides shared utilities for rule-tweak mods.
- ToyBox: cheat / quality-of-life menu with extensive in-game options. Not strictly a cheat tool, many players use it for narrative-customisation features (re-spec mythic choices, unlock alternate paths).
What you'll find on OpenMods
Pathfinder: WotR mods live primarily on Nexus Mods. GitHub-published WotR mods are typically framework libraries or tooling rather than content. OpenMods catalogues these.
Practical notes
- TabletopTweaks-Core is a dependency for many mods. Install it first if you plan a moddable WotR run.
- Mythic-path mods can corrupt mid-act saves. Major mythic-path changes (rebalancing, alternate-class options) should be installed before starting an act, not mid-act. The narrative state machines don't always recover gracefully from mid-stream changes.
- DLC compatibility is per-mod. WotR has multiple DLC packs (Inevitable Excess, Through the Ashes, The Last Sarkorians, etc.). Some mods support all DLC, some only base game. Read the mod's compatibility notes.
- Owlcat patches rarely break UMM. WotR has been stable for years; major UMM-breaking incidents are rare.
