DMCA & Takedown Policy
Last updated: June 2, 2026
policy Overview
OpenMods respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects its users to do the same. OpenMods is a discovery and distribution layer built on top of public GitHub repositories — we do not author or relicense the mods listed in the catalogue. Mod metadata, READMEs, and release files are synced from the repositories their authors connect to the platform.
If you believe that content surfaced through OpenMods infringes your copyright, or that material on the site should be removed for another valid reason, you can submit a takedown notice as described below. We respond to complete, good-faith notices and will remove or disable access to infringing material where appropriate.
report Filing a Takedown Notice
To be actionable, your notice must be made in good faith and include all of the following:
- Identification of the copyrighted work or other right you claim has been infringed
- The exact URL(s) on openmods.net where the material appears, so we can locate it
- Your full name, postal address, telephone number, and a valid email address
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act on their behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature
Submitting a false or bad-faith notice may expose you to liability for damages, including costs and legal fees. Only the rights holder or someone authorised to act on their behalf should file a notice.

Please include "DMCA / Takedown" in the subject line so we can prioritise your request.
hub Content Hosted on GitHub
Because mods are distributed from the public GitHub repositories their authors maintain, the original files live on GitHub rather than on OpenMods. Removing a listing from OpenMods stops it being surfaced through the catalogue, but it does not delete the underlying repository. If the source material itself must be removed, you may also need to file a notice directly with GitHub through GitHub's DMCA process.
undo Counter-Notification
If your content was removed and you believe this was a mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to the same contact. A valid counter-notification should include the URL of the removed material, your contact details, a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed in error, and your physical or electronic signature.
We may restore the material if the original complainant does not pursue the matter further within a reasonable period after receiving your counter-notification.
block Repeat Infringers
In line with our Terms of Service, OpenMods reserves the right to suspend or terminate the accounts of users who are the subject of repeated, valid takedown notices.
