More about Helldivers 2
Arrowhead's online co-op with anti-cheat-constrained modding
Helldivers 2 (2024) is Arrowhead Game Studios's online co-op shooter. The modding scene is unusually constrained: the game is online-only with anti-cheat, and modding the running game is largely forbidden under Arrowhead's terms of service.
What exists is limited to cosmetic mods loaded via community-built injection tools, armour color overrides, voice replacements, UI tweaks. Gameplay mods are not viable; the server enforces game state.
The toolchain
- HDM (Helldivers Mod Manager) or similar community tools, for the limited mod categories that are tolerated.
- Manual file replacement in the game install directory.
What you'll find on OpenMods
Helldivers 2 mods are sparse. The catalogue exists primarily on Nexus Mods. OpenMods catalogues whatever GitHub-published HD2 content exists.
Practical notes
- Anti-cheat enforcement is real. Don't try to mod gameplay logic; bans follow.
- Cosmetic mods are tolerated but not endorsed. Manage your own risk.
- The mod scene is small for this reason. Limited catalogue, limited innovation possible.
- Patches break things. Arrowhead patches regularly; community mods adapt.
