Supergiant's roguelike with the Mod Importer
Hades (2020) is Supergiant Games's mythological roguelike. The modding scene uses Mod Importer, a community Lua-based mod framework. The base game's data is exposed as Lua scripts (the Sjson format), making script modding relatively accessible.
The mod catalogue covers gameplay tweaks (alternative weapon aspects, boon rebalances), cosmetics (character outfits, sprite replacements), and quality-of-life additions (extended stats, custom keepsakes).
The toolchain
- Mod Importer: community mod loader for Hades.
- Hades's
Content/Mods/folder: drop mods here. - Sjson editing: modifying the game's data directly (advanced).
What you'll find on OpenMods
Hades mods live primarily on Nexus Mods. GitHub hosts source for Mod Importer and many scripted mods. OpenMods catalogues GitHub-published Hades mods.
Practical notes
- Hades II is a separate game. Mod scenes don't overlap.
- Mod Importer is community-built, not Supergiant-supported. Patches occasionally break compatibility.
- Run-based design. Hades runs are short; mod testing iterates quickly.
- Save compatibility. Cosmetic mods are save-safe. Gameplay mods that add new aspects can leave save references; back up.
