Farming Simulator 22 Modding on OpenMods

A farming sim with official mod support and the GIANTS Editor

Farming Simulator 22 (2021) is GIANTS Software's flagship farming simulator. Like the rest of the FS series, FS22 ships with first-class modding support: the GIANTS Editor for authoring, the in-game ModHub for distribution, and a community-built tradition of meticulously-detailed vehicle and equipment mods.

The catalog is dominated by tractor mods, equipment mods, map mods, and the long tail of "this is the John Deere 8R Series exactly as it appeared at the 2023 Farm Expo" hyperreal vehicle additions. Brand licensing is real, many of FS's mod aesthetics are made possible by GIANTS's licensing relationships with manufacturers.

The toolchain

• In-game ModHub: official mod browser, accessible from FS22's main menu. Subscribe-equivalent flow.
• GIANTS Editor: official authoring tool. Free download from GIANTS Software.
• GIANTS Studio: Lua scripting environment for code-based mods.
• Manual install: drop a mod's .zip (don't extract) into the mods/ folder under your FS22 profile.

What you'll find on OpenMods

FS22 mods live primarily on the official ModHub and modshub.cc plus community sites. GitHub-hosted FS22 mods are rare. OpenMods catalogues whatever GitHub-published FS22 content exists.

Practical notes

• Console (PS/Xbox) modding is limited. The official ModHub on console only includes a curated subset (cross-platform compatible, no licensed brands typically). PC has the full catalogue.
• Mod ZIP discipline. FS22 reads .zip files in the mods folder directly. Don't extract.
• Save game compatibility. Most equipment mods are save-safe. Map mods are not, switching maps mid-save isn't really possible.
• DLC compatibility per mod. FS22 has multiple DLCs (Premium Edition, Pumps n' Hoses, Platinum); some mods require specific ones.
