Blade & Sorcery's Unity VR modding with U-version updates
Blade & Sorcery (Early Access from 2018, version 1.0 in 2023) is WarpFrog's Unity-based VR melee game. The modding architecture is unusual in VR: Unity Mono with a community-built mod template, distributed via Nexus Mods. Each major "Update" (U10, U11, U12, U13) substantially changes the modding API and breaks earlier mods.
The catalogue covers weapon additions, spell mods, NPC additions, faction overhauls, and total conversions (Mortal Combat, Star Wars, anime crossovers, VR's particular flavour).
The toolchain
- Blade & Sorcery Mod Template: community Unity package for authoring.
- Vortex: Nexus Mods's mod manager with B&S support.
- Manual install: drop mods into
BladeAndSorcery_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods/.
What you'll find on OpenMods
B&S mods live primarily on Nexus Mods. GitHub hosts source for some larger projects. OpenMods catalogues GitHub-published B&S mods.
Practical notes
- U-version compatibility is strict. A U10 mod won't work on U12.
- Mod folder is
BladeAndSorcery_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods/. Each mod is a subfolder. - VR-only. No flat-screen mode.
- Crystal Hunt vs Sandbox. Some mods affect only Sandbox; some affect Crystal Hunt too.
